Sony Pictures has signed a huge streaming deal with Disney. As a result, all the cinema films that the studio will release over the next five years, as well as a large part of the existing collection, will be on one of Disney’s streaming platforms. This includes titles such as Spider-Man and Jumanji .
Sony also signed a five-year streaming deal with Netflix a few weeks ago. All films that the studio will release in the coming years will therefore first appear on Netflix after their shooting period in the cinema and DVD sales. That happens approximately after eighteen months.
Sony and Disney have now agreed that those same films will move to one of Disney’s streaming platforms after this. All in all, it may take a few years before the new cinema films will eventually appear on Disney + or, for example, Star or Hulu.
Both deals would cost about $ 3 billion in total.
Sony is the only major Hollywood studio without its own streaming service. Given the contracts that the company has now concluded, it does not appear to be planning to invest in them in the coming years.
Fans also see this news as a positive sign for Sony’s deal with Disney on superhero Spider-Man. It could just be a sign that Spider-Man is allowed to linger in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for many years to come.
