Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) magazine ‘Organiser‘ has published a photo related to the June 4, 1989 massacre in China on its cover page. Four battle tanks can be seen in this photo. In front of which a single young man stands. The caption of this photo says, “Thianmen Chowk Review”, that is to recall the incident again.

Whole story of Thianmen Chowk Incident

On June 4, 1989, the Chinese army used fierce force on the students and activists gathered on the roads leading to Tiananmen Chowk to demand democracy in China. The army had deployed tanks on the streets to crush the movement. Many people were got killed in this military action.

A British journalist of China claimed that more than 10,000 people lost their lives in this massacre. The repressive violent policy used by the Chinese Army against the students who demonstrated for the restoration of democracy, is still criticized throughout the world.

Protests against the government began on June 3 and 4 at Thianmen Chowk. Looking at the situation, it seemed that a new democracy was going to be established in China. But all was ruined by the cruel action of the government.

The report says that the protesters were not ready to leave the Chowk that night. At the same time, the army had no option but to obey the order of the government. The Chinese army began indiscriminate firing with guns and tankers and suppressed the civilians.

Some time ago China’s defense minister termed the action taken on the protesters at Tiananmen Chowk in 1989 as a correct policy. General Wei Fenghe told a forum of regional security in Singapore, “The incident was a political instability and the central government took steps to prevent the crisis, which was the right policy.” He said, ‘It has proved in these 30 years that there have been many big changes in China.’ Along with this, he said that it was due to the action of the government that China brought stability and development. Bejing was the main focus of student protests 30 years ago where hundreds or perhaps more than 1,000 people were killed on June 4, 1989 at Thianmen Chowk by soldiers.
