The recent film that was banned in India due to featuring a Pakistani actress, Hania Aamir, was Sardaar 3 by Diljit Dosanjh. Another Diljit film is also under controversy now. The name of this movie is Punjab 95, directed by a director Honey Trehan. Punjab 95 has a background of a real-life story of a man named Jaswant Singh Khalra, who was a human rights activist. He also tried to unveil the truth on most of the illegal killings that occurred during the problematic days in Punjab some years back. He wanted society to be aware of how people took away innocent lives without justice. In the film, his inspirational, touching story is described.
Meanwhile, a different movie is being held back on the verge of release. This is the Udaipur Files that starred Vijay Raaz. It is an adaptation of a true murder story in the city of Udaipur when a tailor by the name Kanhaiya Lal was brutally killed. This movie was banned by the Delhi High Court a day before its release. Although the release of these movies created some issues, it’s not the first time that movies in India have been banned or delayed. Other films had a potential and bold storyline that was banned in India. But still, many of these powerful films are now available to watch on OTT platforms.

The fun holiday quickly evolves into a serious discussion on the issues that women encounter in everyday life, such as discrimination, societal pressure, and the struggle to be free. The film Water, by Deepa Mehta, happens in 1938, when the British ruled India. It is a story about widows who were sent to go and live in an ashram when their husbands died. Even after such women had given birth, they could not remarry, live on their own, or even manage to lead a normal life. The film depicts how they were treated and left by society. It is a tragic yet lovely movie that speaks of gender disparity and religious rigidity.

The movie is based on a true event, namely the bomb blasts in Bombay in 1993, which shook the entire country. Helmed by Anurag Kashyap, it is the complete version of what transpired before and after the blasts. It also demonstrates the investigation by the police into the case. The movie is based on the book authored by journalist Hussain Zaidi and tells the truth in a very detailed manner. However, due to its serious content, it took many years before it was launched in Indian cinema.

Another Banned Indian Movie was Deepa Mehta’s film is Fire. It’s about the two women, Radha and Sita, who are not happy in their marriages. They experience love, solace, and bonding with one another. The film discusses love between two women, and at that time it was quite daring. It was released, but there were protests from many people. It is now regarded as a potent film that is based on emotions, freedom, and being yourself.
