We are progressing globally, and so our thoughts towards marriage equality. The recent approach globally shows the impact of speaking up for what’s right and acknowledging everyone’s basic human rights. As more countries accept this value, we’re getting closer to a world where love and commitment are celebrated no matter who you are.

In many countries same-sex marriage has been a big topic and by 2024, several have made big steps forward in accepting and allowing it. These countries are North and South America, Europe, and Oceania. South Africa and Taiwan. Now Greece recently joined this movement on February 15, 2024, becoming the first Orthodox Christian country to support marriage equality, following Estonia’s example in January 2024.

    Greece

Here is the list of 5 countries that recently legalized same-sex marriage

Greece: On February 15, Greece’s Parliament decided to allow same-sex marriage, which means that couples of the same gender can now legally tie the knot This makes Greece the first Christian Orthodox country to accept this. The decision also means that same-sex couples can adopt children, which is a big move forward for LGBTQ+ rights in Greece.

Estonia: On June 20, 2023, Estonia’s parliament also agreed to allow same-sex marriage, making it the first country that used to be part of the Soviet Union to do so. This law started on January 1, 2024, giving more rights to LGBTQ+ people in the area.

Cuba: Cuba is also on the list as it held a national referendum on September 25, 2022, where Cubans approved a Family Code that included provisions allowing same-sex couples to marry.

Andorra: Andorra’s lawmakers, who make up the General Council, all agreed to change the law about civil unions on July 21, 2022. Now, same-sex couples can also get married in Andorra.

Slovenia: On July 8, 2022, Slovenia’s Constitutional Court said that not allowing same-sex marriages went against the country’s rules. They told the parliament to make new laws about this within six months. Hence on October 4, 2022, the parliament approved it and the change started right after the court made its decision.
