Bollywood has gradually changed the narratives by eschewing the early images of fathers onscreen, which were severe, conservative, and overly protective. Here are 7 Hindi films that show fathers in strong, independent positions that go above and beyond their duty as providers to become great friends in honour of Father’s Day. Binge watch them to explore the beautiful bond!

    Kapoor and Sons (2016)

The struggles that middle-class father Amarjeet (Rajat Kapoor) faces as he approaches a mid-life crisis are explored in Kapoor and Sons amid a turbulent family dynamic. Amarjeet seeks peace outside of his difficult marriage while juggling taking care of an ailing father (Rishi Kapoor) and his own failing marriage. Additionally, he has a tumultuous relationship with his sons Rahul (Fawad Khan) and Arjun (Sidharth Malhotra), favouring one over the other. The family’s attempt to create a cohesive portrait becomes a vanishing dream as fragile moments come to an end. However, the family learns the value of accepting one another despite their flaws, which results in a moving demonstration of unwavering acceptance.

    Piku (2015)

An heartwarming story about an odd couple, Bhaskor (Amitabh Bachchan), an unyielding, aged father, and Piku (Deepika Padukone), a working, financially independent millennial woman with a strong will, the film is about a whole lot more than the digestive system. The father and daughter enjoy a number of funny and endearing scenes where roles are reversed while travelling from Delhi to Kolkata with Rana (late Irffan). The essence of love and family ties is captured in this straightforward depiction of elderly parents and their adult offspring.

    Jawaani Jaaneman (2020)

In this engrossing father-daughter drama, Tia (Alaya F) and Jazz (Saif Ali Khan) take the spotlight, highlighting the funny dynamics of parenthood. His world is turned upside down when Tia, Jazz’s unborn daughter, abruptly enters it. Jazz’s resistance is eventually overcome by Tia’s steadfast resolve to win her father’s affection despite Jazz’s early concerns. The poignant story in this movie transcends humour and questions social norms and expectations.

    Dangal (2016)

In this moving story, the father of Geeta (Fatima Sana Shaikh) and Babita (Sanya Malhotra) is a former wrestler named Mahavir Phogat (Aamir Khan). In order to break down constraints in society, Mahavir trains his daughters in the competitive sport of wrestling. Even though they were initially hesitant, the daughters ultimately realised what their father wanted for them. In fact, he becomes into a coach himself and gives his girls the kind of training necessary to be deserving of taking home an Olympic gold medal while others don’t see their potential. This endearing father-daughter story is full of tenacity and fortitude.

    Angrezi Medium (2020)

In a touching story that serves as the late Irffan’s final endeavour, we are captivated by the compelling tale of a progressive father who is motivated to fulfil the ambitions of his dearly loved daughter. Tarika’s (Radhika Madan) dreams are limitless despite their financial difficulties and their residence in a small town in Udaipur. She sets out on a series of hilarious misadventures with her father, Champal Bansal (Irrfan). This wonderful story of love, dreams, and laughter will both move you and keep you laughing.

    Wake Up Sid (2009)

Ranbir Kapoor impresses as Sid, a rich young man who irresponsibly squander his father’s fortune, in this moving movie. Sid is lost in life, unable to manage his interpersonal relationships or his passion for photography. He comes home with his first salary out of concern that he may be left behind. Sid’s father (Anupam Kher) greets him in a heartbreaking scene, acknowledging his son’s genuine devotion. The film skillfully demonstrates how a parent’s love has the capacity to forgive and forget regardless of how many faults a child does.

    Chicchore (2019)

In this critically praised movie, we discover that self-doubt and guilt may be very difficult obstacles to overcome. Sushant Singh Rajput, a late actor, gives a strong portrayal as Anni, a careless college student who transforms into a caring father. When his son Raghav (Mohamad Samad) fails the IIT entrance exam and attempts suicide out of fear of being labelled a loser, Anni serves as his mentor. With the help of his ‘loser’ buddies, Anni educates his son that recognising our flaws always leads to greater pleasure. They also offer a powerful message to everyone: don’t give in to the rat race.
