In the Punic Wars, the city-state of Carthage (located on the coast of present-day Tunisia) and the Roman Republic fought each other for 82 years to gain influence over the western Mediterranean.
The Eighty Years’ War (1568 – 1648)

The Peloponnesian War was between the city-states of Athens and Sparta. Both superpowers strived for military and economic supremacy in the Greek world. Unfortunately, both came out of the battle so weakened that the former greatness never returned.
The Netherlands and England were often at war
