A massive explosion rocked Lebanese capital Beirut on Tuesday damaging buildings across the capital and taking thousands of lives.

A powerful explosion took place on Tuesday around 6.10 pm that rocked Lebanese capital Beirut.  At least 100 people were killed. And around 4,000 got wounded in two huge explosions shaking buildings all over the city and causing severe damage. Not just this but, around 300,000 people became homeless as a result of the recent powerful explosion.

The cause for the explosion is yet not known. But according to Lebanese Interior Minister Mohammad Fahmi, the explosive chemicals stored at Port of Beirut may have caused the explosions. According to Lebanon’s state news agency NNA and two security sources. The blasts occurred in the city’s port area, where there were warehouses housing explosives. The Footage of the blast was shared around by residents on social media that showed smoke rising from the port district that later turned into a huge blast. The fire appeared to spread to a nearby building, triggering the more massive explosion.

The explosion came amid ongoing tensions between Israel and the Hezbollah military group on Lebanon’s southern border. And therefore the authorities have blamed Israel for this. However an Israeli official said, that Israel has nothing to do with it. Israel’s Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi told Israeli N12 television news that the explosion was most likely an accident caused by a fire.

After the news surfaced the U.S. president Donald Trump and U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo extended his “deepest condolences.”
