A seagull has stolen hundreds of dollars in ‘snacks’ from a Tesco chain store, located in the British city of Paignton, reports Metro.
A local customer recently caught the bird – called by locals ‘Steven Seagull’ – during one of his ‘forays’. The images show how the seagull waits for the automatic doors to open before acting. She then sneaks away with the loot, before the staff can reach her.
“I’ve seen her come in several times. This time she got on the hood of my car and I started recording, I knew she was up to something,” said Liam Brown, author of the video. “She jumped down and started picking gum off the floor, then she ran into the store and ran out with a pack of Mini Cheddars,” he added.
According to an employee, the seagull usually goes through the store about three times a day and they estimate that in a year it has stolen about 17 kilos of snacks worth more than 300 pounds (about 370 dollars ), although the true figure could be higher.
“It’s a common occurrence. We think it’s the same seagull,” the worker explained, describing the “thief” as “very picky.” “We have to chase it away because we don’t want to lose the reserves. We are always on the lookout,” she added.
