Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to launch the longest sea bridge in India, the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) or Atal Setu, on January 12. Atal Bihari Vajpayee, a former prime minister and BJP veteran, has been honored with a bridge dedicated in his honor. The bridge, which is 21.8 kilometers long and includes six lanes, was built for an astounding ₹18,000 crore, according to news agency PTI.

The bridge begins in Mumbai’s Sewri and finishes at the Uran taluka of the Raigad district at Nhava Sheva. It is anticipated to stimulate economic growth in Navi Mumbai and the surrounding areas. The two hours it used to take to travel between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai have now been reduced to just 20 minutes.

The Mumbai Police has set a speed limit of 100 kmph for four-wheelers on the bridge. Tractors, motorbikes, and autorickshaws are not permitted to operate on it.

    About Atal Setu

    • A technical marvel, it was built with steel 17 times heavier than the Eiffel Tower and 500 times heavier than Boeing aeroplanes.
    • Its construction required 504,253 metric tonnes of cement and 177,903 metric tonnes of steel.
    • The Mumbai-Pune Expressway route is thus shortened via the bridge. Additionally, it will offer access to places like the Navi Mumbai International Airport, which is currently under construction.
    • According to ANI, 70,000 cars are anticipated to use the bridge each day.
    • The bridge’s construction got underway in 2016. In the globe, it is the twelfth-longest sea bridge.
