Abdul is getting famous for his resemblance to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. He is 29 years old and lives in Badakhshan province of Afghanistan and was first noticed when he came to compete in the popular singing contest Afghan Star. A judge on the series pointed out the similarity, and Mr Maftoon is now among the final eight contestants.
“I didn’t know anything about Justin Trudeau until I saw the photos on social media. The resemblance has boosted my chances of winning the competition by 50%.”
Afghan-Canadian musician Qais Ulfat who is one of the show’s judges, first noticed the resemblance when he was training up the final 12 contestants, he told BBC that,
“I noticed he looked a lot like my prime minister,” he said. “So I started giggling around with the host. Since then he’s gone viral. Everyone’s talking about him on social media. He is a very, very talented artist. I wish him the very best.”
On the other hand, Maftoon says that he wants to meet his Canadian lookalike,
“Because he is a global personality and I am a poor man from a remote part of Afghanistan.”
