The song “Aga Naga,” which plays momentarily when Vallavarayan Vanthiyathevan (Karthi) and Kundhavai (Trisha) meet in Palaiyaarai—you remember, the love boat scene—has been demanded to be released by many fans ever since the first installment of Ponniyin Selvan was made public. The music is thus now available and lives up to the anticipation that the first part’s teaser had generated.
To promote the song, Trisha and Karthi conversed on Twitter as Kundhavai and Vanthiyathevan throughout the day. By releasing a poster that showed a blindfolded Vanthiyathevan and a gun-toting Kundhavai, the filmmakers had been building up anticipation for the film over the last several days.
Kundhavai’s longing for Vanthiyathevan is the subject of the song “Aga Naga” as she waits for his arrival from Lanka. With the songs for Ponniyin Selvan, debutant lyricist Ilango Krishnan has outdone himself by highlighting some of Tamil’s archaic but exquisite words.
PS2 will be released in the theaters on April 28. Ponniyin Selvan franchise films, helmed by Mani Ratnam, are based on the Kalki Krishnamoorthy novel series of the same name, which she wrote in the 1970s. In the historical drama, Vikram, Sarathkumar, Lal, Prakash Raj, and Parthiban also have pivotal roles.
