Anupam Kher recently spoke up about how the movies have been underperforming at the box office despite spending crores in the making. The actor was last seen on The Kashmir Files which minted fair number at the box office and emerged to be a blockbuster, in India and overseas.
In a conversation with the Indian Express group, the actor elucidates on how the public have underwent trauma and pain during the pandemic and why there is a need of such stories with equates that and resonates with them.
“I think people have changed in the last two years. With the Covid and lockdown, the audience has gone through a change. Anything that is fake doesn’t touch them, anything that is real, they will go for it. It is a good churning for us. We need to rethink,” he said.
The actor added, “People have gone through their own tragedy, trauma, fears. So, they won’t like anything fake today. If a film is made with honesty, from the heart, it will resonate with the audience. In these two years, they also got to see a lot of world cinema. They have a choice now.”
Kher mentioned about his upcoming film Uunchai which was received well by the audience. The actor quoted, “Today, whatever we post, there is some negative comment. But for Uunchai, I didn’t see a single negative comment. This is the purity of the film which has reached out. People have understood ‘ye bande sahi hai’ (These guys are nice). This is instinctive.”
The Sooraj Barjatya film also features Amitabh Bachchan, Boman Irani, Neena Gupta, and Parineeti Chopra in lead roles. It is slated to release on November 11, 2022.
