Anupam Roy opens up on KK’s death, says ‘It’s not fair to blame Kolkata alone for mismanagement ‘

Three days after KK’s last performance at Nazrul Mancha, Anupam Roy became the first singer to do a live concert last Friday. The singer and his band members delivered an amazing performance at the annual fest organized by an engineering and management college in Kolkata.

This time, all worked out in a good way, leaving behind the horrific memories of the last concert with KK who passed away on hours after the show. And satisfied with the arrangements at the venue, Anupam shared Kolkata can’t be faulted alone for mismanagement. “Making a public event successful is a massive task and equally difficult in any part of the world. It’s not just in Kolkata. What happened during KK’s event is no doubt unfortunate and tragic. I think his last performance of Pal, as caught on the video, is what we should remember,” said the singer.

One of the most senior event organizers in Kolkata, Tochan Ghosh, who brought KK to Kolkata says singers’ security and wellbeing have forever been Kolkata’s first concern. At the same time he wants to bring up specific incidents during live shows in other metro urban areas which show Kolkata is a lot more safer for artists. “If I remember correctly recently in Bengaluru there was an incident wherein Kannada singer Warrier broke his leg due to the mismanagement during his live gig. There was a huge hole in front of the stage. Have you ever heard any outside artist complaining about any physical harassment from the audience? Such an incident happened in Chandigarh recently when Mika Singh almost felt suffocated because of the overcrowded venue. These things are part and parcel of any big concert,” he added.
