Audi is incorporating YouTube into the infotainment systems of some vehicles. Customers may now easily access well-known third-party apps through the Multimedia Interface (MMI) over a data link by incorporating a new app store. The initial version of the YouTube app is currently accessible on the app store.
YouTube receives more than 500 hours of content every minute. Starting this month, owners of specific Audi vehicles can access their preferred material through the YouTube app in the infotainment system of their car. The new app store, which Audi created in collaboration with Volkswagen’s software firm CARIAD and its partner HARMAN Ignite, enables this access. Customers can customise their automobiles to meet their own demands by integrating the daily-use apps into them.
Music, video, gaming, navigation, parking and charging, productivity, weather, and news are just a few examples of enabled apps. Audi’s MMI system allows for the direct installation of apps like YouTube without the need for a smartphone intermediary.
Everyone in the car can now make the most of their time by watching live streams, news, and videos from popular YouTubers, whether it’s during charging breaks, driving breaks, or just to pass the time while waiting.
Drivers who are also subscribers to YouTube Premium will be able to sign in and access ad-free material.
The first video platform accessible via Audi’s new native app store is YouTube. To create these sophisticated digital systems, Audi relies on the synergies and collective knowledge within the Volkswagen Group. On the project, HARMAN and CARIAD, a subsidiary of Volkswagen, are also engaged. The objective is to create an open ecosystem of well-known apps that will transform the vehicle into a smart travel companion.
Naturally, the optional smartphone interface capability for Audi cars will continue to support Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Starting with the 2024 model year, certain vehicles with the third-generation modular infotainment system (MIB 3)’s most recent hardware and software cluster will be able to access YouTube. These are the Audi A4/A5/Q5, Q5, A6/A7, A8, Q8 e-tron, and Audi e-tron GT quattro, to be exact.
These models will be offered with the store ex-factory as an option in the European, Canadian, and American markets as of the debut date. Later, the system will be implemented across additional Volkswagen Group brands and geographic areas.
