Mohammad Azharuddin, the working president of the Telangana Congress, hinted on Thursday that he might run for office in the state’s forthcoming assembly elections from Hyderabad.

“Congress is doing well. The trends are in favour of our party. We will have to work really hard in this election”, he spoke to ANI. When inquired about party’s target he had replied, “We have not set a target. A lot of people are saying we will win xy seats, but it will be known only after election. I will contest from Hyderabad.”

Azharuddin, who hails from Hyderabad, was appointed Telangana Congress working president in 2018. He had won the 2009 Lok Sabha election from Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh. He contested the 2014 Lok Sabha poll from Sawai Madhopur in Rajasthan but lost. He was not fielded by the grand old party in the 2019 election.

By the end of this year, elections will be held in Telangana. The opposition party, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), formerly known as the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), is being vigorously challenged by the Congress.

Telangana has been governed by the BRS, which is led by K Chandrasekhar Rao, since the state was split off from Andhra Pradesh in 2014. BRS working president KT Rama Rao predicted on Wednesday that the party will win all 17 seats in the next Lok Sabha election in addition to sweeping the assembly elections.

If the people of the state had a strong will to support it, according to Rama Rao, the BRS would play a significant part in the creation of the federal government the following year.
