Bangladesh skipper Tamim explains team’s “hunger” on winning the West Indies series

After doing poorly in Tests and T20Is, Bangladesh’s ODI captain Tamim Iqbal stated that his team was “eager” to win the ODI series against the West Indies. In Guyana on Wednesday, Bangladesh defeated West Indies by nine wickets to win the three-match ODI series with one match remaining. The victory came after they were soundly defeated by the hosts in the two-Test series and the three-match T20I series, which they won by a score of 2-0 with the third game being called off owing to inclement weather.

Shakib al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, and Yasir Ali, three crucial ODI players for Bangladesh, were absent. The first two took time off for personal reasons, while Yasir was injured.

“Look we were missing three players of the playing XI and certainly it had an impact on the confidence of the team but our team did not make us feel (their absence),” he said on Wednesday (July 14). “Everyone was hungry to win. We failed despite trying in Test and T20Is, so we tried to win in the ODIs. And this was not only me, but all the other 15 members were the same and probably it is the result of their wish (to win),” Tamim said, adding that familiarity with the format helped them carry a different body language altogether compared to Tests and ODIs.

“This is one format (ODIs) we are very comfortable and we played a lot of matches. In Bangladesh, the Dhaka Premier League (the country’s traditional list A tournament) is the most competitive tournament and it could be one of the reasons. Apart from that, where there is a result (positive) the environment is different,” he said (via cricbuzz)
