One of the most anticipated films of the year is Greta Gerwig’s Barbie. Before the movie’s July 21 release, promotional efforts have taken an intriguing turn. A pink Barbie dream home has materialised in Malibu, and fans can now formally rent it on Airbnb. The mansion will also reportedly be hosted by none other than Ryan Gosling’s portrayal of Barbie’s lifelong friend Ken.
Fans responded enthusiastically to the film’s unexpected marketing tactic on social media, where images of the pink Barbie dream home went viral. The images show a two-story building with pink walls and a swimming pool that is accessible from the first floor balcony via a channel.
Variety reported that reservations for two separate one-night stays for up to two people will be available starting on July 17 at 10 a.m. PT. On Airbnb, users can make a request to reserve Ken’s room in Barbie’s Dream House. On July 21 and 22, the chosen visitors to the Barbie-inspired dream home will be given two nights’ free lodging at the pink estate in Malibu and will have the chance to see life through Ken’s eyes.
They can peruse Ken’s closet, practise line dancing on the outdoor disco floor, compete in a ‘beach off’ beside the infinity pool and take home a special piece of the Kendom, such as a pair of yellow-and-pink Impala skates and surfboards.
Ken mentioned in the press statement that: “We all have dreams, and Barbie is lucky enough to have a house full of them. But now, it’s my turn, and I can’t wait to host guests inside this one-of-a-kind – dare I say, one-of-a-Ken? – digs.”
As soon as they saw the residence, fans broke down and commented on Twitter. “TIME’s Person of the Year is the Barbie marketing team,” added one. Someone wrote, “i need someone who loves me enough to do book us a stay here.” “Babe wake up new bucket list vacay just dropped,” added another read. “I will be moving in.” stated another.
Barbie features Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, America Ferrara, Kate McKinnon, Issa Rae, Rhea Perlman and Will Ferrell. It is set to hit the theaters on July 21.
