According to reports, Indian opener Shubman Gill will receive the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) awards’ Cricketer of the Year honor. Tuesday’s first Test between India and England is preceded by the annual awards ceremony of the top cricket board of India. Hyderabad will be the site of the BCCI awards.

In 2023, Indian batter Gill had an outstanding season. Gill became the One Day International (ODI) format’s fastest batter to reach the 2000 run milestone. The premier batter notched up five centuries in the 50-over format.

India’s new No.3 Test batter also ended Babar Azam’s reign in the ICC ODI batting rankings.

“He (Shastri) has been chosen for the honour while Gill will be awarded the cricketer of the year,” added a BCCI official toldas quoted by news agency PTI.

After Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, and Sachin Tendulkar, Gill became the fourth Indian batsman to top the ICC batting rankings in One-Day Internationals. Gill is going to win Cricketer of the Year at the BCCI Awards, which are happening for the first time since 2019.

In Hyderabad, the BCCI will present the Lifetime Achievement Award to former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri.

The Asian heavyweights used the former India all-rounder in 80 Test matches and 150 ODIs. In 2014, Shastri was appointed as the director of Team India. India, led by Virat Kohli, advanced to the ICC World Cup 2019 semi-final under Shastri’s leadership. Shastri continued to lead India as head coach till the 2021 T20 World Cup.

India were the first Asian team to win a Test series in Australia while Shastri was captain. The Indian team, led by Shastri, won two Test series in a row in Australia. In 2021, Shastri’s Team India faced New Zealand in the first-ever ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final.
