The Pakistani side has reportedly opened fire without warning, according to the Border Security Force (BSF), hitting its stations in the Jammu and Kashmir region of Arnia. The event happened around 8:00 p.m., and the BSF soldiers stopped the violence right away. The BSF claimed in a statement that its personnel had responded appropriately to the unprovoked shooting that the Pakistani Rangers had started.

The situation in the Arnia region is still tight as the two sides continue to exchange gunfire. “Tonight at about 2000 hrs unprovoked firing started by Pak Rangers on BSF posts in Arnia area which is befittingly retaliated by BSF troops. The firing is still on,” the BSF mentioned in a statement.

This event occurs after Pakistan recently violated the ceasefire in the same area, resulting in injuries to two BSF men. When Pakistan Rangers “resorted to unprovoked firing” on border guards across the IB at the Vikram BoP in the Arnia sector on October 17, the BSF men were shot.

Concerning the unjustified cross-border shooting at the advance station along the Indo-Pak border, the BSF has protested to the Pakistan Rangers. BSF personnel brought up the topic of drug smuggling from across the border during the conference and claimed to have visual proof of smugglers being slain by the force.

According to them, Pakistan Rangers refuted their participation as usual.

There have been several instances of ceasefire violations in this area, which has led to anxiety and instability along the border.
