Suga, a rapper and composer for the South Korean boy band BTS, will begin serving in the armed forces on September 22, 2023.
Suga, 30, will serve his military obligation by performing an alternate service rather than engaging in combat, according to Yonhap.
All physically capable males must enrol in the military in South Korea before the age of thirty and serve for around two years. People with health difficulties, however, are given alternate services. This includes employment in a wide range of government organisations and welfare facilities, such as schools, offices of public administration, nursing homes, and tube stations.
Any position covered by alternative service has a 21-month term of duty that includes three weeks of basic military training, which is three months longer than the army’s.
Suga was said to serve his military obligation as a social service agent by Korea JoongAng Daily in December of last year, but neither Bighit nor the star have verified this.
The BTS brothers’ military recruitment has been a contentious topic in South Korea for a very long time. The group members, however, have consistently reaffirmed the notion that “they will accept the call of duty when the nation calls them.”
While J-Hope, who enlisted on February 26, 2023, has been chosen as an assistant instructor at the 36th Infantry Division Recruit Training Centre, Jin, who joined the military on December 13, 2022, has been assigned the position of assistant drill instructor under the 5th Infantry Division in Yeoncheon.
