The Economic research think-tank had stated that the business confidence has recuperated despite facing lows during the of the pre-pandemic (2019-20) phase and the other two pandemic years, even though sentiments seemed to be subtle sequentially in the three quarters of the ongoing fiscal. The NCAER-NSE Business Confidence Index (BCI) was estimated to be higher at 126.6 in the third quarter of 2022-23 than the previous year’s 124.4.

“However, sentiments continued to soften sequentially in the first, second and third quarters of 2022-23,” it said.

The National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER) further averred that the sentiments associated with the macro conditions continued to stay buoyant in the third quarter of 2022-23 than the second.

The favourable responses has ramped up for the ‘overall economic conditions will improve in the next six months’ and was unaltered for the ‘present investment climate is positive’.

It is expected that the ‘financial position of firm will improve in the next six months’ and ‘present capacity utilisation is close to or above the optimal level’, the think-tank averred.

NCAER conducted the 123rd Round of its Business Expectations Survey (BES) in December 2022, backed by the National Stock Exchange of India Limited (NSE).
