On Wednesday, Nov. 8, the Delhi administration declared that it will be bringing in artificial rain to alleviate the severe air pollution that the nation’s National Capital Region is now experiencing. The Indian Institute of Technology-Kanpur has developed a complete plan that supports this unique strategy, which seeks to drastically reduce pollution levels and enhance the overall quality of the air.

Following the purported meeting between government ministers from Delhi and IIT Kanpur, the authorities are aggressively working to put the plan into action. Physicians even assert that heart disease, stroke, and other neurological conditions can be brought on by air pollution. Air pollution originates from a variety of sources, including smoke from agricultural fires, construction dust, and vehicle emissions.

By injecting compounds into the atmosphere that function as cloud condensation or ice nuclei, precipitation can be artificially created through a technique known as cloud seeding. The idea behind this is to increase precipitation and then purge the air of impurities, which will lower the degree of pollution in that specific location.

In conversation with WION, Manindra Agrawal, a professor at the IIT Kanpur department of computer science and engineering who oversees the cloud seeding project aimed at creating artificial rain.

Agrawal clarified that IIT Kanpur has described the procedures and approaches needed to carry out the cloud seeding process successfully and that the university is in communication with the Delhi government on this process. It is anticipated that IIT Kanpur’s research and experience would be crucial to Delhi’s artificial rain project’s success.

The Delhi administration intends to submit pertinent data to the court on Friday, Nov. 10, and ask the federal government for assistance in putting the creative idea into practice.
