Twitter will face consequences posed by the government of India after the horrific video of two Manipuri women went viral on the platform. The clip shared on Twitter sparked disgust and fear amongst the audience in which the two ladies were stripped and paraded on roads by a group of men who later allegedly sexually assaulted them.

As per the reports, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has issued a warning against the social media platforms in due compliance with fresh IT tiles that poses “reasonable restrictions”.

The sharing of videos that “could lead to problems in law and order” are not permissible under law.

A non-compliance order implementing action against Twitter was issues yesterday’s night. Media sources also claim that IT ministry is working rigorously to make sure that the video isn’t circulated anymore.

Post the clash between Meiti and Kuki community, on May 4, the authorities have arrested an accuse. “We have identified the men and will arrest them soon. The two gang-rape survivors came to the police some 15 days after the horrific assault. They went to Kangpokpi, though the crime did not take place there. But we have got leads. We will catch the men in a day or two,” the officer says.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh averred that he has ordered the police authorities to cognizance of the situation and investigate this on urgent basis.

“I want to assure the nation, no guilty will be spared. Action will be taken according to the law. What happened to the daughters of Manipur can never be forgiven,” PM Modi assured in a public statement.
