Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport is shaped like a starfish, offering five connected concourses. Another interesting thing that makes it more unique is its ultra-thin stainless-steel roof that’s just 0.5 millimeters. And the roof covers a total area of 223,000 square meters. The airport also holds the capacity to absorb and store excess rainwater that can be later reused.
Its two runways will be able to handle 35 million passengers, 500,000 metric tons of cargo, and almost 300,000 landings and takeoffs by 2025. But in the second phase, the other two runways will be added that will have the capacity of 60 million passengers, a million tons of cargo, and 452,000 annual landings and takeoffs.
