Bollywood is divided into two factions about CAA. One is standing in support of it and the other faction is opposing this law. Bollywood actress and former Congress leader “Urmila Matondkar” has given a statement against CAA. Also, she said that the Citizenship Amendment Act of 2019, is like the Rowlatt Act of 1919. Black law of history can be a good name for this, she said.

Urmila said this during an event organized on the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. On one hand, she said, after the end of the Second World War in 1919, the British understood that there was growing discontent against them in India. In such a situation, they implemented laws like the Rowlatt Act in India. This Rowlatt Act of 1919 and the Citizenship Amendment Act of 2019 are the Black Law of History.

Also, people are saying this law as anti-Muslim. We do not want an act that ascertains my identity and citizenship on the basis of religion. It is in our constitution that you cannot discriminate on the basis of religion, language, gender or region. ‘

Apart from Urmila, many Bollywood stars have come out against the Citizenship Amendment Act. These stars include Swara Bhaskar, Pooja Bhatt, Farhan Akhtar, Huma Qureshi, Naseeruddin Shah, Meera Nair, and Konkona Sen besides many more celebrities. All of them openly expressed their opposition against the CAA. Talking about Urmila Matondkar, she started the political journey in the Lok Sabha elections in 2019.
