Deepika Padukone opens up about the speculations made by people when she disclosed her status of trapped into depression back then in 2015. In order to spread awareness about mental health, the actor appeared in a podcast named Archetypes hosted by the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle.
The latter lauded Deepika for her investment to establish a mental health foundation which she started just after reviving from depression. The actor spoke loud about the taboo which is associated with this condition. Some people felt endorsed her idea of sharing her condition and discussing about mental health, while for many it did not go well. They speculated that Deepika has done this to promote her film or it was a mere pharmaceutical brand promotion.
Deepika averred that, “For most of India, it felt like this huge burden lifted off their shoulders. That finally, someone acknowledged the fact that okay, there is such a thing as mental illness but with everything good that you do they’ll always be sort of that skepticism.”
The actor further added, “So there were a bunch of people who felt that either I was doing this to promote a movie or they thought that I was being paid by a pharmaceutical company. And there were articles where they thought I was being paid by a pharmaceutical company and you know that I’m now going to start advertising for some sort of medication.”
Deepika recently visited a village in Tamil Nadu to spread awareness about mental health and establish her outreach initiative on the underbellies. The actor will be now seen in Pathaan, co-starring superstar Shah Rukh Khan and John Abraham.
