Let’s look at some of the rare photos of the celebrity, whose timeless charisma and unmistakable appeal have inspired generations of admirers, ahead of Dev Anand’s 100th birth anniversary on Tuesday.
Here is a photo of Dev Anand with his son Suneil Anand and Kalpana Kartik, who is his wife. Dev Anand had feelings for the actor, but he had never told her about them. Only a few people, including Guru Dutt and S D Burman, were invited to their wedding.
This image shows actor Dev Anand with director Yash Chopra. On the 1973 movie Joshila, Dev Anand collaborated with the renowned director. Hema Malini and Rakhee appeared in the movie as well.
The 1965 film Guide, which Dev Anand starred in, is among his most enduring performances. Dev Anand is shown in the still above from the movie’s set.
The English-language adaptation of Guide was written by Pearl S. Buck and directed by Tad Danielewski of American descent. Sadly, the English movie was never released. 42 years after it was created, it was only shown at the Cannes Film Festival.
Pancham Da described how Dev Anand was constantly there for him during his times of need in Khagesh Dev Burman’s biography of RD Burman, The Prince of Music. He stated in a passage from the book, “Since Dev saab had seen me in my nappies, I had no ego problem in pleading with him not to leave me. ‘If you leave me, everyone will leave me,’ I told Dev Saab.”
A heart attack caused Dev Anand’s death on December 3, 2011, at the age of 88. Last weekend, on September 23 and 24, a film festival commemorating the 100th birthday of screen legend Dev Anand was organised. The Film Heritage Foundation (FHF) organised it.
