One of the many TikTok videos that have gone viral and started a trend is this one by user drollsquad, which ignited a fascinating discussion about the pop artist.
In one of his most recent uploads, user drollsquad discovered an old Tejano record by the band Inocencia. The band’s eight members are visible on the black and white record cover, which features the 1989 song Por Si Volvieras. Three women are among them; one of them resembles the singer of Single Soon quite a bit.
The video’s protagonist and his companion then pull out a digital image of Gomez and begin manipulating its black-and-white images. They’re in shock when they see her next to the Inocencia member. And the striking similarity is not where it ends. The organization is said to have originated in Texas, Selena’s home state in the United States.
These kinds of videos are usually supported by a series of comments that bolster the contention. Here, too, the TikTok user piqued the public’s curiosity by bringing up the 1989 vinyl’s potential connections to Gomez’s very own best friend, Taylor Swift. As you can see, Swift has an album named after the same year. Maybe she was also implying this conspiracy theory?
To add gasoline to the fire, though, you might want to keep in mind that Selena—Quintanilla, not Gomez—was also known as the “Queen of Tejano Music.”
The TikTok user continued to increase the level of enjoyment. He pulled out his antique record player and turned on the record to “confirm things” for himself.
Despite being unrelated to the current narrative, it functions as a charming and nostalgic easter egg, especially since the actress will shortly be returning to the character in the Wizards of Waverly Place sequel.
