According to authorities on Thursday, activists from two right-wing organizations have filed separate complaints in this city against actor Nayanthara and others connected to her recently released film Annapoorani, claiming that some of the film’s sequences offended Hindus’ religious feelings.

Netflix has removed the film from its platform

According to the accusations, the movie encourages “love jihad” and contains contentious statements about Lord Ram. Netflix has removed Annapoorani, which was just released, from the platform. “A complaint was submitted by the activists of Bajrang Dal to the Oshiwara police station in western suburbs two days ago, and an inquiry in this connection is underway,” an official mentioned. Another complaint was filed at the Lokmanya Tilak Marg police station in South Mumbai by Ramesh Solanki, founder of Hindu IT Cell, an official said. In his lawsuit, it is stated that the movie Annapoorani purposefully hurts Hindus’ religious feelings by demeaning Lord Ram.

The film allegedly promotes love jihad as per the right-wing supporters

Additionally, Solanki mentioned a couple movie sequences that he felt offended the religious emotions. The final sequence of the movie, starring Nayanthara as the daughter of a temple priest, is the subject of the complaint. It depicts her doing namaz while donning a “hijab” before preparing biryani. In a different scene, Nayanthara’s friend Farhaan informs her that Maa Sita and Bhagwan Shri Ram had also eaten beef. It mentions one more scene in which Nayanthara doesn’t go to the temple, but goes to Farhaan’s residence for ‘iftaari’.

Complaint has been filed against the actors and makers of the film

“We have received a written complaint application against the actor and other. The complainant has so far not visited the police station. We are waiting for him to appear before the police so that we can take further course of action,” the official added.
