As Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2 gains popularity, similarities to Pathaan from earlier this year are multiplying. The answer to the frequently asked question of whether Gadar 2 will genuinely top Pathaan’s lifetime earnings is probably not.
According to a tweet from trade expert Sumit Kadel, Gadar 2 made 375 crore nett on day 10 (Sunday) in India. This is more than the domestic 10-day gross of 364 crore for Pathaan. The achievement is even more remarkable given that Gadar 2 only received 4000 screens in comparison to Pathaan’s approximately 5500 screens in India. While Pathaan received a single release, it competed with Akshay Kumar’s OMG 2, which also performed admirably.
All of these numbers for Gadar 2 appear to be quite remarkable, yet they still pale in comparison to Pathaan’s 1050 crore international lifetime gross. Gadar 2 has a 490 crore international gross and might end up with a 650–700 crore lifetime haul. The top three Hindi films that have made the most money internationally are still Dangal ($2024 crore), Pathaan ($1050 crore), and Secret Superstar ($965 crore).
In Gadar 2, Tara Singh is seen crossing the border in a risky attempt to free his son, Utkarsh Sharma, who is being held captive in Pakistan.
Shah Rukh Khan made his fourth-year cinematic return with Pathaan. In the Sidharth Anand-directed movie, he portrayed a spy. John Abraham and Deepika Padukone were also featured.
