Kapoors played an important role in building up the gigantic Bollywood industry that we have today. Their RK Studio has given a number of films in the past years and to your knowledge earlier, due to running in loss, Kapoors had decided to put it on sale.

Built 70 years ago now it has finally sold to Godrej Properties. The company said in its statement:

“The studio is spread across 2.2 acres, the developer can build approximately 33,000 square meters (approximately 0.35 million square feet) of the saleable area comprising modern residential apartments of various configurations as well as a luxury retail experience.”

In how much amount the studio got sold is, however, didn’t close by the company. The studio is built in Chembur. It located on the main Sion-Panvel Road in Mumbai and offers a well developed social and civic infrastructure.

Raj Kapoor’s son Randhir Kapoor said, “This property in Chembur has been of tremendous significance to my family over the many decades that R.K. Studios has operated from there. We are excited to have chosen Godrej Properties to script a new chapter for this location and build upon its rich legacy.”

The decision of selling the studio came out when a major fire broke out at the place. Raj Kapoor’s wife and children Randhir, Rishi, Rajiv Kapoor, Ritu Nanda and Rima Jain have unanimously decided to sell the studio afterwards. The last film made in the studio was Aa Ab Laut Chalen in 1999.
