“Taylor Swift and Her World,” a new course at Harvard University, will delve into the complexities of Swift’s music, lyrics, and cultural influence as it delves into her fascinating world. Under the direction of Professor Stephanie Burt, the course will explore how Swift’s contributions have impacted not only the music industry but also writers, artists, and today’s youth.
Swift’s impact on modern culture will be explored in the curriculum, with an emphasis on her recent Eras tour to highlight her significant influence on the younger generation.According to Entertainment Weekly, the University of Florida is another college that is providing a course called “Musical Storytelling with Taylor Swift and Other Iconic Female Artists,” taught by Melina Jimenez.
A rising number of academic institutions are acknowledging Taylor Swift’s cultural significance, including Harvard and the University of Florida. Some of the universities offering specialized courses devoted to analyzing Swift’s music and effect are Ghent University in Belgium, the University of Texas at Austin, Berklee College of Music, and the University of California.
According to the Harvard Crimson, Professor Stephanie Burt acknowledged the relevance of the course and said, “We are lucky enough to be living in a time when one of our major artists is also one of the most famous people on the planet. Why would you not have a course on that?”
