On Saturday, September 9, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz landed in New Delhi for the G20 Summit. He was observed getting off the plane while wearing an eye patch. This occurs after the 65-year-old claimed last week that he hurt his face while running.
On Monday, September 4, Scholz posted a photo of himself on X, formerly known as Twitter, showing his wounded right eye covered in a black patch with red scrape lines around the perimeter.
“Thanks for the well wishes. It looks worse than it is!” he wrote along with the picture with Modi on his official account mentioning, “Excited to see the memes.”
Even with the injury, Scholz, who has been running often for many years, was in terrific form, according to Chancellor’s spokesperson Steffen Hebestreit.
The German chancellor suffers minor injuries, according to his spokeswoman, and will need to wear the eye patch for a few days.
“He’s doing well under the circumstances,” Hebestreit mentioned in a press statement. “He was in a good mood this morning, although he still looks a little battered,” he further added.
Sometime over the weekend, there was an accident that resulted in injuries and, according to reports, forced the cancellation of some of his engagements.
According to the regional media, Scholz was injured while running in Potsdam, which is located 28 kilometres (17 miles) southwest of Berlin.
Scholz has been in charge of Germany since December 2021; before that, he was the nation’s finance and labour minister and the mayor of Hamburg.
Scholz met and conversed with international leaders at the G20 Summit in New Delhi despite the injuries, including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The two presidents last spoke on the margins of the G7’s 49th meeting earlier this year in the Japanese city of Hiroshima.
