ICC World Cup Final’s Boundary Count Rule Was Unfair, Share The Trophy Say Netizens

In a neck to neck fight, New Zealand lost against England even after reaching to the equal points, all thanks to ICC. For those, who didn’t watch the match, let us tell you that, New Zealand gave a target of 241 runs by losing 8 wickets to England in the World Cup final match. In their defence, England played exactly like New Zealand and ended their innings on 241 as well by losing all wickets.

To break the tie to get a final winner a super over was played between the two teams. England took the bat first and made 15 runs. Jos Buttler scored 7 runs including a boundary and Ben Stokes scored 8 runs including a boundary. Then New Zealand played its Super Over and made 15 runs with James Neesham’s 13 runs including a sixer, Martin Guptill’s 1 run and one extra run.

After England played its Super Over, ICC made a rule that there will be no Super Over again if the match will be a tie again and the team with a maximum number of boundaries in the match will lift the World Cup trophy.

Following this rule of Boundary Count, even after making equal runs both in their innings and in super over New Zealand lost against England. This rule made by ICC received a backlash from the cricket fans all over the world as they termed it ‘unfair’. There was a lot of discussion surrounding the Boundary Count rule and many reckoned it to be unfair to determine the final of a World Cup. Here are some of the reactions:

Nice work @ICC … you are a joke!!!

I don’t agree with that rule ! But rules are rules congratulations to England on finally winning the World Cup , my heart goes out for the kiwis they fought till the end 😥. Great game an epic final !!!! #CWC19Final

    — Yuvraj Singh (@YUVSTRONG12) July 14, 2019

A team that didn't lose the final has lost the World Cup. Where have you heard such a thing in any sport? @ICC, you've got to be the best stand-up comic there is.#CWC19Final #CWC19 #ENGvsNZ #EngvNZ

    — Blessen Varghese (@blessenv) July 14, 2019

How can the number of boundaries be the decider? 🤔🤦🏼‍♀️ #CWC19Final

    — Ojaswi Rana (@ojaswirana) July 14, 2019

Both 4 singles or 1 boundary (4) have same value as 4 Runs . How hard it is to understand this to @ICC . If you even don't understand it atleast copy your rules from FIFA, @Wimbledon that a tie is a tie till one is a clear winner #CWC19Final Shame on you @ICC

    48 Games! 46 Days!

    1 question michael
Isnt it unfair to bowlers when #CWC19Final decided on basis of boundries scored? #NZ took more wickets dn #England and everyone knows wickets are hard to come when compared to boundries
And at which stage eng look better dnNZ?

    — The Protagonist Blade (@DragonSurgeon_) July 14, 2019

Why is the number of boundaries get to decide the winner and not the number of wickets.. Is cricket only a batsmen's game? Where is the spirit of game here? #ENGvsNZ #CWC19Final

    — குரு பிரசன்னா (@Guru_balaji_) July 14, 2019

Bad and awkward solution @ICC you should really change the rule for super over. This is not the way to finish a final world cup match.#CWC19Final

At 12-12 in the final set, Djokovic vs Federer should have been decided on who hit the most aces…or backhand winners…or half volleys #CWC19

    — Gaurav Kalra (@gauravkalra75) July 14, 2019

Don't understand how the game of such proportions, the #CWC19Final, is finally decided on who scored the most boundaries. A ridiculous rule @ICC. Should have been a tie. I want to congratulate both @BLACKCAPS & @englandcricket on playing out a nail biting Final. Both winners imo.
