India takes a dig on China for supporting terrorist Sajid Mir, 26/11 accused for Mumbai terror attacks

India has slammed China for preventing the UN from designating Pakistani terrorist Sajid Mir as a global terrorist. India criticised the global counterterrorism architecture and accused China of acting out of small-minded geopolitical objectives. The US and India-sponsored motion aimed to designate Lashkar-e-Taiba member Mir as a global terrorist for his role in the 26/11 Mumbai terrorist attacks.

“If we cannot get established terrorists who have been banned across global landscapes proscribed by the United Nations – for petty geopolitical interests – then we really do not have the genuine political will to sincerely fight this challenge of terrorism,” mentioned India in an official statement.

Due to China’s opposition to the idea, Mir was spared sanctions like an asset freeze, travel restriction, and an arms embargo. The United States has placed a $5 million bounty on Mir’s head since he is one of the most wanted terrorists in India. Western nations requested proof even though Pakistan had previously said that Mir had passed away.

Concerns have been expressed over China’s continuous defence of terrorists with ties to Pakistan from being put on the UN Security Council’s sanctions list. Prior attempts to name Masood Azhar, the leader of Jaish-e-Mohammed, and Abdul Rehman Makki, the deputy chief of Lashkar-e-Taiba, as international terrorists were thwarted by Beijing. China has also hindered India’s attempts to hold Pakistan accountable for freeing Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi, the mastermind of the 26/11 attacks.
