According to the results of a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) performed on Saturday, Rohit Sharma has tested positive for Covid-19. According to a BCCI press release, skipper Rohit has been placed in isolation, and an RT-PCR test to determine the infection’s severity has been scheduled for Sunday.

While participating in the recent warm-up match between India and Leicestershire, Rohit did not bat on Day 3 of India’s second innings. Roman Walker dismissed him after he had made 25 while opening the batting in the first innings.

With KL Rahul already being unavailable due to groin injury, and now Rohit being held under isolation, team India will have to change their plans to send suitable opening pair for the last Test match. Rohit now has less time to get to Edgbaston in time for the rescheduled Test against England, which begins on July 1.

UPDATE – #TeamIndia Captain Mr Rohit Sharma has tested positive for COVID-19 following a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) conducted on Saturday. He is currently in isolation at the team hotel and is under the care of the BCCI Medical Team.

Mayank Agarwal is likely to be called as a replacement, which was earlier suggested during KL Rahul’s replacement issues but India did not go with any substitute.

Rohit performed admirably in the earlier games of this same series, but the last test had to be rescheduled for July 1 because of COVID protocols. He scored 368 runs overall, averaging 52.27, which includes a 100 at The Oval. India currently leads the series 2-1 and must win the final Test to win the Test series for the first time in England since 2007.
