Tuesday’s weather in the north Indian states was still characterized by a cold wave and thick fog, and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that these circumstances will last until January 27. The national capital saw a minimum temperature of 6.9 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, which is marginally lower than the seasonal normal, according to the IMD.

Significant reductions in visibility were seen in observatories such as Safdarjung, Palam, and Ayanagar, and persistent fog was experienced. In the National Capital, the weather service forecasts moderate fog through January 26. On January 27 and 28, foggy conditions are anticipated.

    Trains and flights disrupted

On Tuesday, there were still disruptions to airline and passenger rail operations to and from the national capital due to dense fog and unfavorable weather. A blanket of fog engulfed the city, causing delays at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport.

“Over 150 flights at Delhi’s IGI airport were delayed on Tuesday. However, only seven of them had to be cancelled,” an official said as quoted by HT.

Azamgarh-Delhi JN Kaifiyat Express, Bangalore-Nizamuddin Rajdhani Express, Howrah-New Delhi Rajdhani Express, Rajendranagar-New Delhi Rajdhani Express, Dibrugarh-New Delhi Rajdhani Express, Banaras-New Delhi Express, and Katihar-Amritsar Amrapali Express are among the 28 trains that experienced delays ranging from two to five hours, according to Northern Railways.

Cold day alert issued in north India

Tuesday was a very cold snap in Rajasthan, with thick fog engulfing many areas of the state. Alwar was especially affected, with minimum temperatures of 2.5 degrees Celsius. IMD predicts that on Wednesday, isolated portions of West Rajasthan will continue to experience cold day to severe cold day weather.

The meteorological service predicts that from Tuesday night till the morning of January 27, dense to extremely dense fog will be present across several areas of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Uttar Pradesh for several hours during the night and morning.

According to updated projections, there will be dense to extremely dense fog in certain sections of Bihar till Thursday morning. For the next three days, there will be dense fog in other isolated locations.

Chilly to extremely chilly days are anticipated to continue in some areas of Uttarakhand.

There was restricted visibility at several areas. Flight operations were affected at 500 meters in Delhi, 500 meters in Jammu Division, 50 meters in Patiala, Uttar Pradesh, and 25 meters in Varanasi and Prayagraj.
