Ira Khan, the daughter of Aamir Khan, recently opened up in-depth about her experience with depression in an interview. Ira, who has battled depression for more than five years, claimed that while the separation of her parents didn’t have a significant impact on her, she felt depressed for an additional 1.5 years and had even stopped eating. Ira said that she had a family history of mental illness.

Agastu Foundation was recently established by Ira Khan to support mental wellness. She disclosed that the organization’s advisory board is made up of her parents, Aamir and Reena Dutta. She stated that until she acquired the proper money, he assisted her in supporting the organisation.

During an interview with a leading daily, Ira had talked about how her routine has changed, affected her mental space deeply. “My mom pointed out that I didn’t want to be alive so I would just sleep my day away so that I would have fewer hours to live in a day,” Ira added. She also pointed that even though her parent’s separation didn’t affected her much but she couldn’t figure out why she felt lonely and gloomy. “I didn’t tell anyone because they would be worried about me. This period was one-and-a-half years. Then I stopped eating food for four days,” she averred.

Ira mentions that she have cyclic depression which gets back in phases, “Every 8-10 months I will have a big crash. It’s partly genetic, partly psychological, and partly social. It took me a while to figure it out. But I have mental health disorders in my family. I also did not make healthy choices and I systematically walked into depression. I had a very big dip in July last year. I had stopped taking my medication and also put on a lot of weight. I developed a mental block against working out.”

Ira is Aamir Khan’s second child along with his ex wife Reena Dutta.
