With his selection as captain for the final test against England, Jasprit Bumrah will also be setting a record.

Rishabh Pant will serve as Bumrah’s vice captain, according to the BCCI, which also confirmed the news of Bumrah’s captaincy.

A fast bowler will finally lead the Indian team after 35 long years. When Kapil Dev led India to its first World Cup victory in March 1987, this last occurred.

The eighth cricketer to captain India since 2021 will be Bumrah, who will take the helm for the first time on Friday. It is worth mentioning that Bumrah has never captained a team in a competitive game of cricket despite being regarded as a capable captaincy candidate.

Bumrah will be India’s first fast bowler captain in the previous 35 years. Bumrah spoke out against thinking along these lines for the first time since the illustrious Kapil Dev.

“Batsmen, bowlers, fielders, wicket-keeper, everyone is part of the team and remains involved in the game regardless of their role. I never thought about batsman-captain or bowler-captain aspect as we all are players. Everyone reads the game,” Bumrah said.

    Squads:

India Squad: Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Hanuma Vihari, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant(w), Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah(c), Mohammed Siraj, Umesh Yadav, Shardul Thakur, Srikar Bharat, Prasidh Krishna

England (Playing XI): Alex Lees, Zak Crawley, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow, Ben Stokes(c), Sam Billings(w), Matty Potts, Stuart Broad, Jack Leach, James Anderson
