Gulshan Kumar kept the rights of expensive songs among the general public. Gulshan Kumar was born in 1951 in Delhi.
He was raised by his parents and a younger brother in his family. His father used to have a fruit shop in Daryaganj, Delhi. Gulshan Kumar was born into a Punjabi Arora family in Delhi, the capital of India. His initial name was Gulshan Dua. Gulshan Kumar married Sudesh Kumari. Gulshan Kumar has a total of three children, one of which is a boy and two girls. After the murder of Gulshan Kumar, his business is handled by his son Bhushan Kumar.
Gulshan Kumar’s father Chandrabhan Dua used to run a house in Delhi’s Daryaganj by selling juice. Gulshan Kumar used to earn with his father at a juice shop. This is what led to the business of trading Gulshan. When he was 23 years old, he started a shop with the help of family and started selling records and audio cassettes. In the beginning, Gulshan Kumar recorded bhajans and devotional songs in the voice of local singers and sold their cassettes for a very low price. His plane took off from here.
The business of records and audio cassettes started making decent profits, then he started making audio cassettes himself. Gulshan Kumar took the music industry to a new height with his hard work, vision and passion. Gulshan, who started the business in the music industry with the sale of audio cassettes, made these cassettes at affordable prices and reached the common people and established a huge empire in the Hindi film music world.
Gulshan named his audio cassette business as ‘Super Cassette Industries’ which later became a big name like T-series. He then opened a music production company in Noida near Delhi. In the 1970s, he started selling good quality music cassettes at cheap rates. It was cheaper and significantly better than other big music labels.
After this, Gulshan Kumar stepped into the field of making films and also gave opportunity to many new faces. It is due to Gulshan Kumar that the film world has found singers like Sonu Nigam, Kumar Shanu and Anuradha Paudwal.
On August 12, 1997, Gulshan Kumar was shot dead by miscreants outside Jeeteshwar Mahadev temple in Jeet Nagar, Andheri west suburb of Mumbai. The Mumbai police accused Nadeem of Nadeem-Shravan, the then famous music duo, for planning the murder. Nadeem had fled to England and also taken citizenship there.
His daughter Tulsi Kumar Rana is a singer and another daughter Khushali Kumari Dua has studied fashion designing. You must have seen Khushali also acting in videos of some songs. A film based on the life of Gulshan Kumar is also being made. The name of this film is being told as ‘Mogal – The Story of Gulshan Kumar’. In this film, actor Akshay will be seen playing the role of Gulshan Kumar.
