In South Korea, a lioness broke out from a farm and sparked an immediate search before being slain by a hunter on Monday, according to officials. After discovering her cell empty, the owner of the farm in Goryeong County’s southeast reported the escape. According to Goryeong police, the authorities swiftly dispatched police officers, emergency personnel, and citizen hunters to the region.

County and police officials declared a no-entry zone for a mountain region where the lioness was rumoured to have relocated before one of the hunters shot and killed her close to the property. Officials from the county and the police talked under the condition of anonymity because they were not permitted to talk to the media about the situation.

No one was reportedly attacked by the lioness. It was unknown when the lioness fled; she was last observed in her cage when she was fed on Sunday night. The property mostly breeds beef cattle and has no additional lions or lionesses.

According to Goryeong police, the property’s owner informed detectives the lioness had been turned over when the land was bought last year. It wasn’t immediately clear if the former owner of the farm had received formal consent to rear the lioness.
