Indian film director, Mani Ratnam’s masterpiece Ponniyin Selvan- I established on the titular novel authored by Kalki, has incessantly recorded soaring numbers at the box office since release. As reported by the sources in trade, the film has successfully managed to earn a whopping ₹325 crore gross profit overseas in just seven consecutive days. The film was released in cinemas on September 30 in five Indian languages and gathered ₹318 crore gross in six days, with a major chunk of earning (₹130 crore) coming from Tamil Nadu alone.
According to the estimation made by trade analyst Trinath, “PS1 is having an excellent run at the box office,” as it ushered a gross earning of ₹325 crore in the first week. “In seven days, the film has grossed more than ₹325 crore and is set to cross ₹350 this weekend… This is the sixth Tamil film to enter ₹300 crore club after movies such as 2.0, Enthiran, Kabali, Bigil and Vikram,” Trinath added. In the box office earnings, PS1 is about to overtake Vikram and 2.0 and have already surpassed Enthiran and Kabali in the rankings.
PS1 now stands out as the third highest-grossing Tamil film backed with a budget of ₹150 crore. It opened with an overseas range of ₹80 crore and continues on the same trail, making new records.
The period film features Aishwarya Rai, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha, Vikram, Sobhita Dhulipala and Aishwarya Lekshmi and other prominent actors. This film is also marks the comeback of Aishwarya, after 10 long years. She will be seen playing a dual role of Nandini and Mandakini Devi in the film.
The follow-up part of Ponniyin Selvan is expected to be arriving next year in theaters. Director Mani Ratnam also expressed his satisfaction as he could craft two parts of PS1 for the audiences to cherish. Part one of PS1 is available in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada.
