The news of the massive fire at Assam has surfaced on the internet. The incident took place in upper Assam’s Tinsukia district.
There are reports that recently an oil well in Assam caught fire which destroyed everything in the radius of one km. It is being told that the oil well is located at Baghjan of Tinsukia district in upper Assam and about 500 kilometers from Guwahati. The oil was leaking for 14 days ie from 27th May. And on Tuesday it finally caught fire around 1:30 pm. The fire was so intense that it was seen from approximately 10 km away. The locals claim that it has spread to nearby villages. So far the fire had caused severe damage to the region’s wetlands and biodiversity. Not only this but the two firefighters were also found to be dead near the sight. And their bodies were found near the well at a wetland.
After the incident happened, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has reached the spot and top officials are reviewing the situation. Also, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal requested Indian Air Force and the Army for help and now they are assisting in the firefighting operations. Currently, the authorities are trying to control the situation. But the fire is so massive that it will definitely take some time to relax down. Around 6,000 people living in a 1.5-km radius of the natural gas producing well have been placed in relief camps. Oil India Limited has also announced financial relief of Rs 30,000 to each to the affected families.
Let us tell you that the Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal spoke to home minister Amit Shah, defense minister Rajnath Singh and petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan to monitor the situation and take major steps to bring the fire under control soon.
