Spotify, a leading provider of music streaming services, has released its annual international selection of 10 explosively talented up-and-coming artists who will be big stars in 2023. The exclusive collection features artists who have gained a significant amount of worldwide attention and streams in the last year.

Let’s have a look at these five incredible newcomers from Spotify who, with their catchy tunes and distinctive styles, ruled the charts and playlists in 2023.

    Latto

Rapper Alyssa Michelle Stephens, often known as Latto, made her breakthrough in 2020 with the smash song “B*tch From Da Souf.” At the age of 24, she has quickly established herself as one of hip hop’s most notable young voices.

Latto, who currently has over 800,000 Spotify followers, is known for his bold lyrics and high-energy flow, which have fueled several hit songs, including the Savage Remix featuring Megan Thee Stallion and Mariah Carey. Particularly inspiring is the female support for her songs from all around the world.

Latto stated to MTV News, “It’s important for women to empower other women and that’s why I keep preaching for people to support women in hip-hop.”

    Anitta

Nitta’s talent and ambition go hand in hand; her ability to sing three languages eliminates linguistic boundaries, as seen in her cross-continental collaborations like the megahit Envolver with Cardi B.

Anitta’s rising stardom in 2023 is ensured by her sultry songs that highlight female problems such as abortion rights and confidence. “I believe art is not style, art is attitude,” she told in conversation with Elle Magazine. “I have a responsibility.” She added “I want to take Brazil to the world”.

    Steve Lacy

    Steve Lacy

Guitarist/singer Steve Lacy first became well-known online with his funky band The Internet, but since releasing the hugely successful song “Bad Habit,” his solo career has taken off. The soothing song’s popularity on TikTok propelled 24-year-old Lacy to solo stardom with more than 500 million Spotify plays.

Since his unexpected rise to fame, Lacy has proven that he is a multi-talented artist, as indicated by the intricate songwriting and production on his Gemini Rights album. “In returning to music on his own terms, Lacy leveled up in every conceivable way,” as Pitchfork notes.

    FLO

Established in 2021 by sisters Celina and Jessica Smith, the up-and-coming British pop duo FLO has gained momentum fast because to their nostalgic production and deep harmonizing. Cardboard Box and Immature, two of their early songs, highlight their seductive vocal chemistry and straightforward lyrics.

While girl groups have recently been less popular, many people have connected with FLO’s sincere attitude. As stated by NPR, the sisters “are breaking into the mainstream while leading a soul revival.” It seems like FLO has brought back the charm of talented duos this year, as evidenced by their recent singles yielding many UK top 40 hits.

    Mellow Troubadour Joji

Last but not least, Australian-born singer-producer Joji (real name George Miller) makes the breakthrough list for 2023 with his style of hazy electronic textures and downtempo R&B filled with candid lyrics. With more than 2 billion Spotify plays to date, the Japanese-American musician has amassed a devoted fan base.

Joji, who rejects labels, creates incredibly intimate music; according to Pitchfork, “he wears his flaws and the intensity of his emotions on his sleeve.” Joji, who has been exploring his Japanese heritage in recent singles, has become more well-known in 2023 thanks to his raw sincerity and inventive production.
