N Jagadeesan, a wicketkeeper-batter who was dismissed in the opening game of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL), posted an apology after reacting inappropriately. During the match between the Nellai Royal Kings and the Chepauk Super Gillies, Baba Aparajith mankaded Jagadeesan. As he walked back in fury, he turned around to point his middle finger at the bowler. The gesture was then made once more. He apologised for his actions on Twitter on Friday.

Because “Mankading” is now a recognised and authorised method of dismissal, the batsman was declared out following the most recent MCC regulations. But before heading to the dugout, Jagadeesan gestured unacceptably. He angrily showed the “middle finger” twice.

After the incident, Jagadeesan apologised in a written statement for his actions while playing. He deemed his behaviour unacceptable and said he found it challenging to comprehend how he reacted after his run-out.

“My deepest apologies to all of you for my inexcusable behaviour at yesterday’s match,” he wrote in his statement.

“Cricket has always been what I live for – and the sportsmanship that comes along with the sport is something I deeply respect. Which is why it is very hard for me to digest how I reacted,” he added.

“Passion is always key in any sport – but controlling and channelising it the right way is more important. And that is something I failed at doing when I let my temper get the better of me,” he wrote.

“No excuses for what has been done. I will do better and be better. With regret, Jagadeesan,” the Chepauk Super Gillies opener said.
