Achala Nagar, the storyteller and screenwriter of the film, said that Dilip Kumar was offered to act in the film before Amitabh. In an interview, Achala said, “When BR Chopra offered the job to Dilip Kumar, he said that neither Nargis nor Meena Kumari is alive anymore. Rakhi even stopped working on the film. At that time BR Chopra could not think of any other actor except Dilip Kumar and could not make the film in the end.
