According to a statement from his office, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated on Tuesday that attempts are still underway to free the remaining captives that Hamas is holding in Gaza and that the organization had issued an ultimatum that has now been somewhat loosened.

According to a poll released on Tuesday, only 15% of Israelis approve Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s plan to defeat the militants in the Palestinian enclave, even though many more still want him to remain in power when the assault on Hamas in Gaza concludes.

Following Hamas’s October 7th rampage in southern Israel, which resulted in 1,200 deaths and 240 kidnappings to Gaza, Netanyahu vowed to destroy the organization. A large portion of Gaza has been destroyed by Israeli forces during their nearly three-month-long counteroffensive.

According to a study by the Israel Democracy Institute (IDI), 24% of respondents said that a swap agreement that included the release of thousands more Palestinian inmates from Israeli prisons would be the best method to free the hostages, while 56% of respondents believed that the military attack should continue in order to free the hostages.

However, the poll revealed that just 15% of respondents think Netanyahu should lead the country after the conflict. Twenty-three percent of interviewees supported moderate Benny Gantz, his political rival and current war cabinet colleague. About 30% said they had no favorite leader.

According to the IDI, a survey with a 95% confidence level was performed among 746 respondents between December 25 and December 28.

On Saturday, Netanyahu stated that it would take months to accomplish victory. According to numerous polls, his popularity has drastically decreased since Hamas’s surprise strike in October, which resulted in the bloodiest day in Israel’s 75-year history.
