The first batch of reviews have arrived for Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer and have interestingly gauged positive comments in an unanimous way. Very handful of critics felt that the film is not an impressive one. While some rank it as one of the best works of Nolan.
As per the Rotten Tomatoes rating it is tagged as fresh’ at 92% score on near about 150 reviews. The consensus note read, “Oppenheimer marks another engrossing achievement from Christopher Nolan that benefits from Cillian Murphy’s tour-de-force performance and stunning visuals.”
The film also features Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr, Florence Pugh among others.
The Chicago Tribune’s Michael Phillips penned down, “This is a film about terrible risks and a planet likely destined to destroy itself someday. And we see it, and feel it.” The New York Times’ Manohla Dargis reviewed, “Oppenheimer is a great achievement in formal and conceptual terms, and fully absorbing, but Nolan’s filmmaking is, crucially, in service to the history that it relates.” Peter Bradshaw at The Guardian said that this movie is a big bang’. “Elevated by Cillian Murphy’s exacting performance, Nolan’s biopic on the father of the atomic bomb is majestic and morally complex,” mentioned Tomris Laffly from The Wrap.
Some reviews were not on a positive end. The Film Verdict’s Alonso Duralde stated, “Like its protagonist, Oppenheimer is a work in constant conflict with itself, with most of its problems rooted in Nolan’s screenplay.” Odie Henderson from The Boston Globe wrote, “What I can say for sure is that “Oppenheimer” far too often feels like a three-hour Wikipedia entry than a compelling movie.”
As per the website called Rotten Tomatoes, Nolan’s best-rated movie is 2008’s The Dark Knight (94%). Thereafter Oppenheimer with a 92% score aligned with Insomnia and Dunkirk ranked in the same scores. While his worst-reviewed movie is 2020’s Tenet with a 69% score.
