Alan Arkin, a seasoned stage and cinema actor, passed away at age 89. He is the winner of a Tony Award, an Academy Award, a BAFTA, and a Golden Globe. The reason of death has not yet been made public.
Alan Arkin’s sons Adam, Matthew and Antony made a joint statement to People. “Our father was a uniquely talented force of nature, both as an artist and a man. A loving husband, father, grand and great grandfather, he was adored and will be deeply missed”.
Most recently, Michael Douglas, 78, and Alan Arkin played recurrent co-lead characters in the Netflix comedy series The Kominsky Method. In the Best Supporting Actor category, he received nominations for the Emmy, Screen Actors Guild, and Golden Globe Awards during the duration of the series from 2019 to 2022. In The Kominsky Method, Alan Arkin and Michael Douglas portrayed lifelong pals.
The popular television program’s concluding third season features the death of Alan’s Norman Newlander character, ending his narrative character arc. Alan claimed that he left the show in order to avoid the pressures of the entertainment industry.
He spoke to The Guardian, “I’m like a horse going down the trail. Acting is so ingrained in my physiognomy and the channels of my brain that I find myself missing aspects of the business. But I don’t need it anymore. I should probably get over it. The less work I get, the better my health. The stress in the marketplace is enormous and my system has a fast reaction. I can’t deal with stress anymore.”
With Calypso Heat Wave, Alan marked his Hollywood debut all the way back in 1957. One of his most well-known films is Little Miss Sunshine, for which he received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor despite having only a 15-minute role. Steve Carell and Tony Collette also participated in the tragicomedy road movie from 2006. Additionally well-known for his roles in Million Dollar Arm and Marley & Me, Alan’s final movie appearance was as the voice of Wild Knuckles in Minions: The Rise of Gru.
