Pakistan’s electronic media watchdog on Thursday posted a crackdown towards cable operators who supposedly broadcasted Indian content on TV channels. The watchdog claimed that the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) field staff initiated raids at four cable operators “for airing illegal Indian channels as well as Indian content”.

The raids spotted cable operators M/s Sharjah Cable Network, M/s Karachi Cable Services, M/s New Satellite Communication and M/s Star Digital Cable Network in Karachi which aired Indian content. While the raid was on the regulatory body seized illegal tools and issued show cause notices to the cable TV violators, the statement ddeda.

The statement said that operators must immediately stop airing Indian channels/content, otherwise illegal or proscribed by the authority.

“No channel other than PEMRA licensee would be allowed for distribution on cable TV networks and any operator found defying the orders henceforth would be dealt strictly in accordance with PEMRA laws,” it warned in the given statement.

Earlier in 2018, the Pakistan’s Supreme Court reiterated a ban on broadcasting Indian content on TV channels in the country, surpassing the Lahore High Court’s order.
